Kinja'd!!!

First, figure out the original MSRP of your current vehicle (or what you would estimate it to have been). Then subtract from that original MSRP what you actually paid for the vehicle. That is your budget and it is to be used for replacing that vehicle with ONE model from the SAME Automaker (not necessarily the same brand!)

Feel free to do this with every vehicle you currently own. NO ADJUSTING FOR INFLATION!

Example 1: 2006 Kia Amanti

(MSRP $27,995) - (Paid $7,500) = (Budget $20,495)

One more example for you using my other vehicle.

Example 2: 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo X

(MSRP $32,000) - (Paid $21,987) = (Budget $10,013)

So I would have $20,495 to spend on any Kia or Hyundai in Example 1, and $10,013 to spend on any Jeep or Chrysler product in Example 2. Basically causing the vehicles to trade places!

This should be fun because so many Opponauts have new cars! Everyone with an old car gets a newer one, while everyone with a newer car gets an older one! If you have both, then it’s like your own garage is flipping around.

I’m off to bed. Have fun and good night Oppo!

Current Car: 2010 Ford Fusion MSRP $24,665 - $9,500 = $15,165

Would be able to trade for a manual Fiesta SE w/ black appearance package for $14,999

Kinja'd!!!

Could be worse!

Where do you find original MSRP

See if this helps, use the “research” section which should be the first thing you see: http://www.msn.com/en-us/autos

Otherwise you’ll have to track down a CarandDriver, go through a full KBB evaluation, or just get lucky with Google.

2001 Honda Prelude, according to Edmund’s, had an MSRP of $23,600. I paid $800 for mine (blown engine). Gives me a budget of $22,800 for a Honda or Acura. Since an NSX is out of range, I’ll go with an AP2 S2K.

My ‘94 Buick Roadmaster wagon MSRP $26k -$1700 = $24,300

I think I’d buy a very nice Buick Grand National ... and probably another Roadmaster, but with less rust and working AC.

$27k for my Abarth GQ, paid $15k, so $12k left for a FCA vehicle. I could pick up a 2012-2013 Abarth hatchback for that. Maybe a high mileage 300 SRT or Magnum SRT, or a crappy old Wrangler.

1995 F150 XLT Extended Cab 4x4

MSRP $22,430

Paid $800

Hmm.. $21,630 for a newer Ford?

I’d go older. $15k gets me this 40,000 mile 1993 SVT Lightning.

2004 ZHP, MSRP 45k, bought for 11k. Looks like I’m getting a nicely optioned JCW Cooper S or a stripper 228i.

1996 Infiniti I30

original MSRP: $29900

price paid $500

That leaves $29400 to work with.

Too bad there’s no cheap Infiniti for under 30k anymore, no G20/Primera equivalent, no Q20 (in today’s Infiniti model-name-speak), which is what I’d rather have than a hard-to-work-on transverse V6.

The Juke is only available with a manual transmission on the MOST EXPENSIVE version, and then you can’t get a sunroof. No yellow stinger SV with a manual, either. FUCK YOU NISSAN.

I’d have to go up to Canada and get a yellow Juke SV with the manual transmission.

Canadians can also get a Sentra SV with a sunroof and manual (again, down here it requires an automatic).

And all of these combos are possible even with higher Canadian prices and no currency adjustment.

Our Volvo Fleet:

‘05 V50 2.4i MSRP $25,990 - $4,500 = $21,490

‘01 V70 T5 MSRP $34,250 - $3,500 = $30,750

$21,490 + $30,750 = $52,240

Kinja'd!!!

Just enough combined for a new S90 T5 FWD in Magic Blue Metallic with the 19-in. 5 triple spoke wheels and Climate Pack + HID.

I’ve always wanted this Ascot 2.0Si on Goo-Net. 250K yen, 77K km, pristine condition, and 4WS! Only problem is that the fancy post-OEM installed stereo is likely all in Japanese.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Kinja'd!!!

If we really need an MPV, how about this Elysion? 2005, 130K km, 248K yen, well equipped, and in good condition. Pity it’s not import ready, but this is the Dream Garage, isn’t it?

1989 535i with lots of options, original MSRP around $45,000; I paid $1,000.

$44,000 - 2016 BMW 228i with m sport and track handling package.

Ironically enough, my 5 series is about as big as I'd want to go with a car and I think even the current 3 series is a touch bigger.

I just did this in real life.

2001 Audi TT: MSRP ~$45k. Paid $10k. $35k leftover.

2014 Audi A4: MSRP $46k. Paid $36k.

Missed it by $1k

Alright. So the MSRP was around 25k. I paid about 5k for the car and getting it running after sitting for 9 years. So that leaves me 20k for a Toyota/Lexus/Scion. You could get a really nice Land Cruiser FJ60 for that price. Holy hell. Or one very rough MKIV Supra or a nice MKIII. Fuck it. MKIII Supra.

Kinja'd!!!

Dodge Dakota V8 Quad cab 4x4 6-speed. Original msrp:$25k (wow these were cheap) -$13k purchase price

12k replacement: Nope. I’m keeping it.

2016 Skoda Superb hatch, 1.4TSi ACT, SE L Exec, petrol blue metallic, plus a couple of extras.

MRSP £26,000±200

Price paid £21,250

Difference £4,750

So I’d either go for a 2010 Skoda Superb or something smaller like a

2009 SEAT Ibiza hatch, 1.4 SE Sport Coupe for £4,450.

A MKIII? Why? Assuming you’re American, you could get a pretty servicable RHD MK4 for that money.

Otherwise, you’re looking at like 2-3 decent LHD MA70s.

I don’t know my exact numbers, but I’m pretty close...

Wife’s 2006 R500 msrp 70,000 - paid 14,000 = budget 56,000 for a 2010-2013 E350 4matic wagon.

My 2001 E55 AMG msrp 72,000 - paid 8,000 = budget 66,000 for either a CLK63 black series or a 2010-2011 E63.

With enough left over for repairs! Or a bike! I like this game, can it be real?
